Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which areas do you service?

We are based in Wollongong. We play for weddings and events across the Illawarra, South Coast, Shoalhaven, Camden and Southern Highlands areas.

  • Why Clear Strings?

We are experienced, affordable, and pride ourselves in playing a large range of repertoire. There is something on our repertoire list for everyone! We have worked together as a professional ensemble for over 10 years which means we are familiar with all aspects of weddings and events. With Clear Strings you are in good hands!

  • Do you play for events other than weddings?

Yes, we certainly do! Clear Strings have extensive experience providing music for different functions and events. These include funerals, corporate functions, concert events, parties, celebrations and more. Please contact us for a quote and further information.

  • I’m not sure which ensemble to choose – a Duo, a Trio, a Quartet?

Clear Strings truly believe that live music really makes a wedding special and strive to make live music as flexible and affordable for as many couples as we can! We have a range of different ensembles and play a diverse range of music to cater to all tastes, budgets and requirements. To help make your decision easier, we have recorded samples from our Duo, Trio and Quartet ensembles so you can hear first hand what the difference in the sound is. Beyond this, some good advice is that the more instruments you have, the thicker the sound will be. With a Duo, you have the Melody and the Accompaniment, a Trio will be Melody, Harmony and Accompaniment and a Quartet will allow for 4 different layers of sound to interact.

  • You have a lot of repertoire. Can you really play all of that!

The simple answer is yes! All of our musicians are Classically trained and we love to play in this style. However over the years we have discovered that other styles of music such as Popular, Movie & TV and Jazz are extremely well received at Weddings and Events. People love to hear music that they know. We have decided to embrace this and now love to play in all different styles. There is something on our repertoire list for everyone!

When you book with Clear Strings, EVERY piece on our repertoire lists is available to you as part of your booking cost.

  • We would like a piece that is not on your repertoire list, can you arrange it?

We certainly can and love doing this! Please contact us with your request for more information.

  • When do you play during a ceremony?

We usually start around 15 minutes before the ceremony is due to start to gather your guests and set the mood. In the ceremony itself we will usually play for the processional, the signing and the recessional. If your ceremony has additional music requirements (hymns, sand ceremony etc) then we can also play for these if required. After the ceremony we will continue to play until the time of the booking has concluded.

Please contact us for further details regarding your specific requirements.

  • How do the musicians know when to stop and start when I walk down the aisle?

This is where our experience comes into play! On our arrival we will speak with the Minister or Celebrant and arrange a signal that indicates the Bride is ready for her processional. When this is given, we will then play until the Bride reaches the front of the Ceremony. At this point we will end this piece in a musical and natural way giving you enough time to settle and get comfortable. You don’t need to worry about this moment – we have done it lots of times and will ensure it works perfectly!

  • What do I need to provide the musicians with on the day?

We are very easy to cater for! Our String ensembles require one armless chair per musician and somewhere in the shade to play. This can be under a tree or existing structure. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure shade cover is provided. Our instruments are timber and therefore easily damaged by the sun. We do not require any amplification – be assured that the acoustic strings will beautifully complement your event in any venue. If you have hired the Piano Duo we will require access to a power point within 20m. We will bring our own extension leads and power boards.
